Introduction to Bharatanatyam Recorded Series
Learn at your leisure with our recorded dance series!
This six session series led by professional teacher Kamala Devam from Akademi will introduce you to the fundamental principles of Bharatanatyam. Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest classical dance forms, originating in the temples of Tamil Nadu in South India.
Encompassing theatre, dance and music, Bharatanatyam dance movements convey stories through expressive hand gestures and facial expressions. Joined by live musician Swati Seshadri and demonstrator Aishani Gosh, Kamala will lead you through the basic steps or adavus as well as short phrases, built across the six sessions. Each session is approximately 40 minutes long and they have been designed with small spaces in mind, making them ideal for use at home. As the series is recorded, you will be able to pause, rewind, re watch as many times as you like to complete the exercises, moving through the sessions at your own pace and in your own time. By the end of the series, we hope you will have gained confidence in your knowledge of Bharatanatyam technique and discover the joy of dance!
This series is produced in partnership with Akademi, a South Asian led dance organisation; inspiring, engaging and educating audiences across a diverse range of settings.
